In 1929, scholars working in the archives of the Ottoman Empire in Turkey's Topkapi Palace Museum made an exciting discovery: a section of an early 16th-century Turkish map based in part, apparently, on an original map made by Christopher Columbus and showing his historic discoveries in the New World.
The map was signed by an Ottoman captain Piri Reis (more precisely: Piri ibn Hajji Muhammad) in 1513, only 21 years after Columbus discovered America.

According to inscriptions made by Piri Reis, he used 20 source maps in constructing the map -- including that of Columbus and eight done in the time of Alexander the Great.

Printed on a glossy 19" by 25.5" sheet, half of one side is a full color reproduction of the map.
The other half of that side includes an outline of the map with numbers corresponding to explanations in Turkish, English, French, Italian & German.
On the reverse side is a history of the map, in all the above languages.
